The Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation was founded in 2015, first as Big Kahuna Swim Academy, and today has evolved into a multi-faceted non-profit organization with a mission to prevent childhood drowning through community outreach and education, water safety and swim lesson scholarships.

We believe that EVERY SINGLE CHILD on this planet should be water-safe.

Tenaya Goldsmith

CEO / Founder

Tenaya Goldsmith is the Founder and CEO of the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation, which is the home of Big Kahuna Swim Academy. The Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preventing childhood drowning incidents and promoting water safety education in Southern California.

Goldsmith started Big Kahuna Swim Academy as a sole proprietor in 2015, then made the switch to a non-profit in 2020 with the goal of expanding her reach and helping families and children get access to quality swim lessons in the community; including those who can’t afford them.

Goldsmith’s commitment to water safety and education aligns with the Foundation’s mission, and her involvement within the Foundation reflects her dedication to preventing drowning incidents and promoting safe swimming practices.

Under Goldsmith’s leadership, Big Kahuna Swim Academy remains a highly respected swim lesson program in Southern California, known for its personalized approach to teaching and its commitment to water safety. The Academy’s focus on one-on-one swim lessons ensures that each student receives individualized attention and feedback to help them achieve their swimming goals.

Goldsmith is also involved in the community as a member of the Norco Area Chamber of Commerce and the Corona Chamber of Commerce. Working with other entities to ensure the safety of the local communities.
