Regular scholarships are for any families to apply for. The Bernard & Tucker Scholarship is only for wheelchair bound children. We only have 8 available scholarships and they are partial scholarships.

We will never use names in any of our posts. It would mean the world to use if you would be open to helping us in this venture to spread more awareness about water safety and drowning prevention. Swim Lesson Scholarship Terms & Conditions

By checking the box below, I am acknowledge the following:

1) If my child receives a partial scholarship, I will be paying for the other portion of the scholarship out of pocket.

2) All children under 4 years old must be double diapered with a tight fitting disposable swim diaper & a re-usable swim diaper cover (HAPPY NAPPY)

3) Property: Big Kahuna Swim Academy has a high level of respect for the facilities we rent at LA Fitness and at private pools. LA Fitness and the private pools in which Big Kahuna Swim Academy offers lessons are the property of the owner. Any equipment, toys or items that are not mine or my kids’ will be left untouched. Big Kahuna Swim Academy has a no-tolerance policy for theft and or the disturbance of any property in any way. Violation of this policy may result in being asked to leave a facility and may cause cancellation of further lessons with Big Kahuna Swim Academy without refund of any tuition.

4) Billing: You will not be billed for sign up fees throughout the duration of your student’s swim scholarship. If you receive a Full Scholarship, you will not be billed for tuition either. If you wish to continue lessons after your scholarship is up, please email or text us (tenaya@bigkahunaswim.com or (909) 273-9680). You will either need to put a card on file or reapply for another scholarship. The sooner you reapply for a swim scholarship, the more likely you’ll be able to get another scholarship. Scholarships are first come, first serve.

5) Signup Fee: There is no Sign Up Fee for Swim Lesson Scholarship Students when taking advantage of their scholarship.

6) Cancellations: Please make sure to cancel by 8am the day of your scheduled lesson. If you cancel 2 or more lessons in a row, you will automatically forfeit your scholarship and it will go to the next student in line.

7) Stopping Enrollment: In order to drop from lessons, we must be notified before the 1st of the month to ensure that you are not billed for that month. Refunds are not issued.

8) Make-Up Lessons: Make up lessons are not given to Swim Lesson Scholarship Students. If you miss your first 2 lessons, we will assume you are not interested in the scholarship and will give it to the next family in line for a Swim Lesson Scholarship.

9) Late: If you arrive late to your lesson, we will do our best to give you the full lesson time however, we can only guarantee the remaining time of your scheduled lesson.

10) Pool Closures: If fecal matter is present in the pool, we may need to stop lessons as well as exit and clean the pool and facility, OR if there is inclement weather such as thunder and lightning, we will have to stop lessons until it is safe to resume. In either event, you will be able to reschedule your lesson within the same week. If you do not reschedule that week, you will forfeit your that lesson.

11) Absent Instructor: We believe that the continuity of lessons is of the utmost importance. Therefore, in the event of an absent instructor, a substitute instructor may be provided. Notice will not be given. If, upon arrival, you decide you would prefer not to swim with a substitute instructor, you may cancel your lesson, but you will not receive a make-up lesson. If we cannot provide you with a substitute instructor, we will reschedule your lesson.

Criteria

All applicants must have certain criteria in order to be approved for a Swim Lesson Scholarship. Parent/Guardian or Student must have one of the following: receiving WIC benefits OR receiving Food Stamps or Cash Aid. If you do not attach proof with your application, it will not be moved forward to be approved. All Bernard & Tucker Scholarship recipients must have a certified doctors note stating that the scholarship student permanently requires a wheelchair and any pertinent information for them to safely participate in swim lessons.

WIC Participant

Please upload your WIC Verification letter certifying that you are receiving benefits. This must have your name or your student’s name on the letter to be accepted.
